The final stage of testing and launch of the Missile Defense
Agency's SBX Sea-Based Radar system was completed last week. Technicians
from Man & Material Lift Engineering
were on site to complete final testing and sign-off prior to its trip to
Alaska. The system consists of an advanced radar system mounted on a
floating platform. It will be able to track, discriminate, and assess
long-range ballistic missiles as part of the Missile Defense Agency’s
Ground-Based
Midcourse Defense (GMD) system.
Man & Material Lift Engineering worked with Engineers from Vertex, Ratheon and Boeing to develop a manlift that would mount to the huge spinning radar unit and be used to maintain the radome cover which is vital in maintaining environmental conditions for the sophisticated electronics. We are very proud to have worked with Vertex, Ratheon and Boeing and to be a supplier to The Department of Homeland Security. Due to the confidential nature, installation pictures of the manlift cannot be shown.
